Kitchen Display

Use the KDS (Kitchen Display) to see what the kitchen has to make and to mark each line as it cooks. It is for restaurant outlets: a guest shop has no kitchen. Open it from the outlet's name in the Outlets group of the sidebar. It fills the whole screen, keeps the display awake, and updates as orders are fired, with no refresh needed. The back arrow in the header returns you to the restaurant.

Reading the board

Tickets are grouped into station columns: Hot, Cold, Bar, Dessert, Prep, and Other for anything without a station on its menu item. A column only appears when it has something in it. Use the station filter (All stations by default) to show one station on a display mounted at a single pass. When the property has more than one outlet, the outlet picker in the header switches outlets without leaving the screen.

A ticket is headed by its table, or by the order type for a pickup or delivery order. Its age timer counts up from the moment it was fired, and changes colour as the ticket gets older, so the pass can see late tickets at a glance.

The indicator next to the heading shows Live when the screen is streaming updates and Polling when it has fallen back to fetching at intervals. Either way the board is current; only the speed of updates differs.

Line states

Each line moves through three states on the board, colour-coded down its left edge:

StateShown asMeaning
NewNewOn the ticket, not yet started.
PreparingCookingBeing made.
ReadyReadyWaiting at the pass.

A fired line goes straight to Cooking, not to New: the kitchen was told to make it, so cooking is the starting state. While a line is cooking, a timer next to it counts down from the prep time on its menu item, then shows the overrun in red. An item with no prep time shows elapsed time instead, so fill in prep times on the Menu.

Tap a line to move it one step forward. Tapping a Ready line marks it served and takes it off the board. Lines only move forward, one state at a time, so a mis-tap cannot skip a step.

Modifiers appear indented under the line, and a note from the cashier appears in amber.

Voiding from the pass

Press and hold a line to void it, then enter a Reason. The reason is required, and the void is attributed to the signed-in user.

A void from the KDS is final

Voiding removes the line from the order and cannot be undone. Use it for something that cannot be made, for example when the last portion has gone. A press and hold takes longer than a tap, so a busy pass does not void by accident.

Voiding needs the Void Items permission. The KDS itself needs Kitchen Display. See Users and roles.
